Autodrom Brno. The season finale of this year’s endurance season took place at Autodrom Brno on October 20, 2019. The 9-hour race there marked the end of this year’s long distance championship, after three more races had already been held at the Autodrom Most (6H) and the Slovakia Ring (12H) during the course of the year.

The 5.403 km long race track is not only known as the venue for the MotoGP, but also for a challenging “mountain and valley track” with many demanding combinations of bends. The Pfister-Racing Team relied on the 350 hp CUPRA Leon TCR racing car as well as the driver trio Björn Dietrich (GER), David Wassermann (GER) and Andreas Pfister (GER).

“We had already adapted our racing car’s chassis set-up for the race track in Brno in the run-up to the finale. Nevertheless we knew that the layout didn’t suit us very well and that our partly rear driven competition has an advantage here. Therefore it was our goal to keep out of all skirmishes as much as possible and to score as many points as possible for the overall ranking,” says Pfister.

From position 2 on the grid, the team managed to stay in the leading group first, but as expected, the lap times of some competitors were faster, and the team strategy was adjusted accordingly to stay in the top 5 over the distance. Thanks to the great commitment of the team and drivers, the CUPRA TCR racing car moved up to 4th place again during the course of the race, within striking distance of the podium.

“Rookie” David Wassermann gives a strong performance

David Wassermann was particularly positive in the last third of the race: The champion from the CHEVROLET Cruze Eurocup 2018 contested his first real race in a TCR racing car, but that didn’t stop him from completing very constant and fast lap times. “That was great positive proof for our junior racing driver program and our racing driver training. David did a great job and really enriched the team together with Björn Dietrich and myself,” says Andreas Pfister.

Teamwork is crucial: 5 pit stops with tire change and refueling were on the agenda

At the end of the race Wassermann was able to catch up, but this time the team had to be content with fourth place, just behind 3rd place. However, the points scored were still sufficient for 2nd place in the overall ranking, just 2 points behind the overall winner.

“Despite the difficult conditions we made the best of the situation and are happy about the runner-up title in the overall endurance ranking. We would also like to thank our partners and supporters, our racing drivers and all team members on site (Alois Pfister, Bozo Erak, Jelena Erak, Sascha Zwirblis). Our CUPRA racing car has worked flawlessly throughout the season and without the slightest problem, which definitely cannot be taken for granted. This makes motor sport fun and we are already looking forward to continuing our CUPRA endurance program in the 2020 season, using several racing cars then!”
